Rasp 'n Speak Rasp 'n Speak is an emulation of the Braille 'n Speak synthesizer. It runs emubns on a Raspberry Pi. QUICK START 1. write the Rasp 'n Speak image on a micro SD card (must be at least 4G). 2. insert the SD card into a Raspberry 3 or Raspberry 4 device 3. attach a USB-to-Serial cable to the Raspberry and connect the other end to your DOS computer. With the above set-up, the Raspberry Pi will act as a BNS synth and vocalize whatever the DOS PC is sending. The DOS PC needs to have a screen reader installed, for example PROVOX, ASAP, JAWS, etc. TTS BACKEND Rasp 'n Speak can use two different TTS backends for producing sound: either espeak-ng or Piper. The default configuration uses espeak-ng. Piper produces a largely superior speech quality, but it comes at the cost of some latency. A Raspberry 4 is highly recommended for Piper output. To enable Piper, you only need to create an empty "piper.txt" file on the FAT partition of the SD card.
